Résumé

A variation of the well-proven propane precooled mixed refrigerant liquefaction process, or AP-C3MR™ LNG Process, is the dual mixed refrigerant (DMR) process. This process replaces the propane precooling refrigeration and its series of shell and tube heat exchangers with a mixed refrigerant precooling refrigeration using a single, robust coil wound heat exchanger. The DMR liquefaction process has unique benefits including a compact plot, reduced equipment count, high capacity, ease of modularization, ability to eliminate propane as a refrigerant component for safety reasons and a flexible precooling temperature, which the operator can take advantage of for varying feed gas and ambient air temperature conditions. The flexibility of this process also leads to a broader range of driver options and arrangements that allow further optimization of the execution strategy.
This paper will provide an overview of the latest advancements in the Honeywell LNG AP-DMR™ LNG Process including improvements to both equipment and machinery arrangements informed by operational experience and process optimization at ENI’s Coral South FLNG facility that has been in successful operation for 3 years and during the execution of Sempra’s Energia Costa Azul
LNG project in Mexico which is the first land-based LNG project to employ a DMR process. The paper will also review operability and controls improvements that can be applied to AP-DMR applications to further optimize liquefaction plant process control and performance.
