An overview of current and upcoming EU legislation for the HVACR sector.

Résumé

Art. 10 of the European F-Gas Regulation 842/2006 stipulates a revision of this regulation in 2011. The EU Commission has contracted consultants to establish a report in order to determine the state of implementation of the regulation 842/2006 in the 27 EU member states and its effectiveness. Furthermore, taking into account the global evolution, the report evaluates different phase-down scenarios for HFCs based on the Global Warming Potential (GWP). A panel of experts, among them EPEE, is currently discussing the assumptions and outcome of the report together with the consultants and the Commission. By July 2011, the Commission will have to come to a conclusion whether it is necessary to clarify, strengthen or amend the regulation. In this presentation, EPEE explains the process, gives an overview of first findings of the report and discusses the phase-down issue. Another key issue for the HVACR sector is the European energy efficiency action plan and the eco-design directive with its implementing measures. EPEE is currently active in more than 10 different lots, i.e. product groups, among them air-conditioning units below 12kW, heat pumps, chillers and commercial refrigeration. The presentation explains the ecodesign process and its short term and long term consequences for the industry.
