Résumé

The author deals with the safety aspects and the use of risk analysis assessing the use of flammable working fluids in the USA. Another aspect was the use of risk factors, e.g. one accident per one million installations. Since the number of heat pumping installations in the USA is considerable, he questioned if the safety of flammable working fluids would ever be acceptable within reasonable cost limits. Ammonia is more widely accepted in commercial applications, whereas CO2 is regarded the most promising natural working fluid.
