Comportement de frittage et processus de décomposition et recombinaison thermiquement induite (TDR) d'alliages de LaFe(13-x-y)Co(x)Si(y).

Sintering behaviour and thermally induced decomposition and recombination (TDR) process of LaFe(13-x-y)Co(x)Si(y) alloys.

Résumé

The sintering behaviour of La(Fe,Co,Si)13 and the TDR process were investigated in dependence of the Co and Si content. The sintering activity increases with increasing sintering temperature and decreasing Si content. At sintering temperatures above 1050°C some alpha-Fe grains are formed together with a liquid phase. Due to the liquid phase densities of about 7.2 g/cm3 are easily achieved. The alpha-Fe grains can be dissolved almost completely by a homogenization treatment at about 1050°C. For Co-containing alloys the 1:13 phase decomposes at annealing temperatures below 900°C into finely distributed alpha-Fe and La- and Si-rich phases. The kinetics of this decomposition increases with increasing content of Co and Si. Without Co the decomposition could not be observed at all. In the decomposed state the material can be machined into thin shaped parts for magnetocaloric heat exchangers. During a final homogenization treatment at about 1050°C the 1:13 phase is reformed and the magnetocaloric properties are recovered completely.
