Adaptation des systèmes à sorption à l’utilisation d’énergie thermique environnementale.

Adaption of sorption-based systems to environmental thermal energy harvesting.

Résumé

Sorption refrigeration and related sorption systems have significant potential to drive a march toward more sustainable heating and cooling by reducing the energy burden of heating and cooling systems. Conventional sorption systems use high temperature heat to recharge the sorbents. Even open sorption systems require high temperature heat to enable evaporation of water since it is impossible for most sorbents to be dried through evaporation. The design of a new system capable of using low concentration saline solutions to regenerate high concentration saline solutions through a spontaneous process is reported in this paper. The low concentration saline solutions can be recharged with environmental thermal energy and used later to recharge the high concentration saline solutions. This establishes a mechanism for using environmental heat as an energy source for sorption-based systems, one that can be extended to use low quality heat from other sources such as industrial waste heat. Experimental measurements and simulation results demonstrating significant potential for concentration – including even using a saline solution to concentrate itself – are reported.
