Performance analysis of waste heat-driven cooling cum desalination adsorption cycle.

Résumé

This article describes a novel low-temperature (typically between 50 and 80°C) waste heat powered adsorption (AD) cycle that produces both cooling and high-grade potable water. The proposed AD cycle comprises three adsorption beds, two evaporators and a condenser, and the mathematical modelling of such a cycle shows the production of (i) the chilled water at 7°C with nominal cooling of 3.5 Rton, and (ii) the cooled-water of 20°C at a nominal capacity 6.0 Rton. Simultaneously, a specific daily water production of 11.2 m3 per tonne of silica gel per day has been achieved from the cycle. With a two temperature levels of evaporation and pressurization in the cycle, the COP of the cycle is found to be approaching 0.80 while the performance ratio of desalination is 0.71.
