Résumé

The search for patterns and analysis of processes occurring in non‐stationary (transient) modes of operation is crucial for improving and increasing the energy efficiency of closed‐cycle Joule‐Thomson (JT) refrigerators that use refrigerant mixtures to cool objects within the temperature range of ‐90…‐160⁰C. The use of multicomponent mixtures (more than 3 components) in these refrigerators to achieve low temperatures results not only in a change in the mixture's vapor‐liquid equilibrium during temperature decrease in transient operating modes but also in a shift in molar concentrations between the components in the circulating composition. This paper presents an analysis of the experimental determination of molar concentrations of a nitrogen‐hydrocarbon refrigerant mixture in transient operating modes, conducted in the temperature range up to ‐163⁰C on a JT refrigerator with a 4.36 m3/h volumetric capacity compressor. The results obtained can serve as initial data for further development of a method to determine the optimal pressure change law in the evaporator, and the acquired experimental relationships can be utilized for designing low‐performance JT refrigerators (with a compressor volumetric flow rate of less than 25 m3/h) operating with mixtures to achieve the maximum cooling capacity at intermediate temperature levels.
