Résumé

This study presents a transient numerical analysis of a two-stage refrigeration system for a subcompact battery EV. It also compares the performance of refrigerant fluids with low Global Warming Potential (GWP) and low Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP), namely, R-1234yf, R-1234ze and R-32, over time, with R-134a, from the previous generation. The refrigeration system was modelled using one condenser, two evaporators, one expansion valve and one compressor. One evaporator was employed to regulate the climate within the cabin, and the other was responsible for cooling down the battery pack. The cabin evaporator comprises sensible and latent heat, whereas the battery pack evaporator embodies constant heat-flux boundary condition. This work concludes that the time necessary to reach steady-state indicates that the transient solution governs the system's operation, and it also presents an estimation for energy cost and consumption to run the air-conditioning system.
