Analyse thermodynamique d'un système à éjecteur en auto-cascade pour la congélation à ultra basse température en utilisant un mélange de frigorigènes R600a et R1150.

Thermodynamic analysis of an ejector based autocascade system for ultra low temperature freezing using a mixture of refrigerants R600a and R1150.

Résumé

The range of temperatures required by the ultra-low temperature applications, -50ºC to -100ºC, cannot be economically achieved with single stage systems because of the limitation on the compression ratio. Different types of solutions like cascade, auto-cascade or two-stage systems can be implemented to achieve the desired working conditions. However, those systems are usually complex or the efficiency achieved is not good enough.
In the present article, a modification of the auto-cascade system has been proposed by including an ejector device to improve its COP. As an alternative to the conventional refrigerants, with very high GWP, used in this type of systems, R23 or R508B, a mixture of the hydrocarbons iso-butene and ethylene has been used.
The results showed a potential improvement of 29% on the COP of the system for the design working conditions at -90ºC of evaporating temperature. It can be concluded that ejectors can be implemented in this type of cooling cycle without adding excessive complexity and cost.
