Notes some drawbacks of conventional methods of capacity control for refrigeration and air-conditioning systems such as intermittent running of the compressor and varying the flow of refrigerant through the evaporator. Presents a comparative study of cylinder unloading, suction gas throttling and hot gas by pass capacity control schemes.
