Applications utilisant les HFC d'un point de vue écologique et économique.

HFC applications under ecological and economical aspects.

Auteurs : FLOHR F., RIVA M., MEURER C.

Résumé

The reduction of the systems related to the total environmental impact is one of the most important challenges within the area of refrigeration and air conditioning (AC). HFCs, having replaced ozone depleting substances (CFCs and HCFCs), in a number of applications, have recently been in the focus of European legislative discussions. Although the future EU F-gas regulation specifically acknowledges the important role of HFCs in the refrigeration and air-conditioning sector, discussions were mainly focused on the refrigerant itself but not on technologies and systems where they are used. This work looks into the implications that novel EU regulations with respect to HFC refrigerants have on environmental and economic performance of systems. This paper also demonstrates that optimizing the ecological performance of refrigeration and AC systems requires a look far beyond different refrigerant options and their environmental impacts through direct emissions. The eco-efficiency concept was introduced in previous publications and has proven to be an ideal tool to identify system concepts that offer the best potential to minimize environmental emissions at competitive costs. Eco-efficiency considerations for German supermarket systems have been published. This work takes a first step to extending this knowledge to other fields of the European refrigeration and AC industry.
