Résumé

Flammable refrigerants, known for their potential to ignite under specific conditions, are increasingly gaining attention in the industry due to their environmental benefits compared to other non-flammable alternatives. This study investigates critical aspects in CFD-modelling of propane (R-290) refrigerant leaks from air conditioners in small rooms. When applying CFD tools, different assumptions are made, e.g., concerning refrigerant flow rate, location of the leakage, direction of the leakage, room infiltration and ventilation, etc. The intention of this study is to evaluate the effects of these assumptions on the concentration distribution of R-290 in small rooms. The main conclusion is that the assumptions made may have a large effect on the results and, thereby, on the determined risk of reaching the flammability limit. The simulations were done using Ansys software, and to validate the models, results were assessed for geometries and conditions described in the literature.
