Résumé

The effect of surfactant concentration on drag reduction characteristics of trimethylolethan (TME) hydrate slurries has been investigated. The drag reduction effects of TME hydrate slurries and the solution viscosities were measured. The TME concentration was set at 25 wt% for drag reduction measurements, while it changed from 0 to 25 wt% for viscosity measurement in order to investigate the critical TME concentration on shear induced structure formation of surfactant micellar structures related to drag reduction occurrence. From the results, high concentration of surfactants prevents the disturbance of TME on shear induced structures of surfactant micelle structures and causes marked drag reduction in high concentration of TME in liquid phase. This is found to correspond well to the critical TME concentration observed in viscosity measurements. However, the critical TME concentration cannot explain the drag reduction characteristics in the case of low concentration of surfactants when the drag reduction effect becomes weak but critical TME concentration becomes high at the maximum shear rate added in the present experimental apparatus. This might be related to the formation time of shear induced structures.
