Résumé

This paper presents the experimental results of the cooling performance characteristics of an air-cooled heat pump system using hydrocarbon refrigerants (e.g. R-1270, R-290 and R-600a) and R-22 The performance was calculated on the base of a compressor shaft power, a compression ratio, a discharge refrigerant temperature in compressor, a refrigeration capacity and a COP with respect to an indoor and outdoor temperature. The heat pump was initially designed to operate with R-22. The heat pump was tested in two independently controlled environmental chambers so that the dry-bulb and wet-bulb temperatures for the indoor and outdoor unit could be maintained at standard test conditions. The variation in power input to compressor was almost similar for al1 refrigerants, while the refrigeration capacities of hydrocarbon refrigerants were higher than R-22. This resulted in hydrocarbon refrigerants having 6 to 15% higher COPs than R-22, with R-1270 exhibiting the highest COP.
