Résumé
Natural fluids have gained importance due to recent regulations, with CO2 being the most widespread fluid in centralised systems. However, its low critical temperature has made transcritical cycles a standard in warm and hot climates, where new components or cycle configurations are required to improve the cycle’s energy efficiency (COP). Natural refrigerant mixtures are proposed to increase the CO2 critical temperature, improving the performance of the cycle. Therefore, this work analyses four mixtures of CO2 with propane (R290) and propylene (R1270) in a transcritical refrigeration plant as an alternative to pure CO2. Using two mass fractions of 4% and 6%, the CO2/R290 and CO2/R1270 mixtures were tested at two heat rejection temperatures (20 and 34°C), using the configurations of Internal Heat Exchanger (IHX) and Integrated Mechanical Subcooling (IMS). Under the same cooling demand conditions, the results demonstrated the suitability of these mixtures with COP improvements of up to 9%.
