Résumé

With the globally increasing significance of green hydrogen as an energy carrier, the demand for research and development related to its various storage forms has intensified. This also applies to the cryogenic, liquid state of hydrogen (LH2). The diverse research and development issues associated with LH2 are offset by the rather complicated and cost-intensive supply of LH2 for experimental studies. This work presents the design and technical implementation of a laboratory-scale hydrogen liquefaction plant that is being installed within a collaboration project of the TU Braunschweig and the TLK-Thermo GmbH. The plant operates based on the pre-cooled Linde-Hampson cycle; the process involves a two-stage precooling of the gaseous hydrogen, throttling from 155 bar to 1 bar, followed by a separation of the liquid phase and return of the gaseous phase for further utilization in precooling. Liquefaction rates up to 0.36 kg/h with a maximum storage capacity of about 1.4 kg LH2 (at 1 atm, 20.3 K) are pursued (20 l storage volume).
