Développement de microcapsules contenant des matériaux à changement de phase pour le froid.

Development of microcapsules containing phase-change materials for refrigeration.

Résumé

Polystyrene microcapsules containing phase change materials (PCMs) for refrigerating applications were synthesized by suspension like polymerization. Petrepar n-C13 and Petrepar n-C14 were used as core material due to their low melting points (around to -6 and 5°C respectively). Both PCMs can be applied in transportation of frozen goods as back up of the refrigerating system, saving energy and avoiding the goods loss in case of breakdown. The thermal properties, morphology and particle size distribution of the microcapsules were characterised by differential scanning calorimetry, scanning electron microscopy, and low angle laser light scattering. The average particle size in number of Petrepar n-C13 and Petrepar n-C14 microcapsules obtained was 3.83 and 3.97 micrometers, respectively. They showed high thermal energy storage and spherical shapes with smooth surface for microcapsules with Petrepar n-C14 and rough surface in case of Petrepar n-C13. Finally, these microcapsules were incorporated in polyurethane foams that can be applied as insulating materials in transportation of frozen goods.
