Résumé

Phase Change Materials (PCM) are thermal storage devices which help refrigerators retain cooling during electricity shutdowns. Several experiments were carried out to investigate PCM performance, and a model was created in Dymola. Identical PCM packets were placed at various locations adjacent to the evaporator. Three cases were considered: no PCM, three PCM packets and four PCM packets. The temperature rise results were compared. A basic model was prepared using data from the experiment. The model consisted of a cabin comprising “wall” models and one air cell. The air cell was connected to a heat flux boundary where cooling heat flow values were introduced as an input. Results showed that using four packets led to about 8 times slower temperature rise. Thermal behaviour of PCM was also clearly observed in the model. The model may be used as a basis for more comprehensive models in the future.
