Résumé

The fins of air-cooled evaporators freeze at evaporating temperatures below 0°C. This causes a drop in the heating performance and in addition the evaporator has to be defrosted periodically. Besides a theoretical investigation, measurement data of 13 heat pumps were also analysed. The electrical defrosting energy consumption of heat pumps with reverse cycle defrosting consists not only of the electrical energy during the defrosting cycle but also of indirect energy losses, like those caused by the 4-way valve. If all these effects are taken into account, the difference in electrical defrosting energy consumption of hot gas defrosting and reverse cycle defrosting becomes small. The results also show that there is a big potential for improvement in the defrosting of evaporators.
