Résumé

Low-cost vegetable storage devices were developed in India based on the principle of evaporative cooling. The complete device comprised 3 different parts: basic frame, water holding tray, and exterior material covering for basic frame, which included gunny bags, coal, sand, khus curtain and sponge moss. Trays were placed on the top of the basic frame to allow continuous dripping through wicks. A 7-day assessment indicated a 10-12 °C reduction in temperature and relative humidity increased from 23 to 91% during peak summer conditions.
