Résumé

A dual-temperature open display cabinet is a new product that can provide simultaneous heating and cooling stored products, in response to the rising demand from consumers and retailers. The unique property of the studied dual-temperature open display cabinet is an uneven air duct to separate the heated air and the refrigerated air. However, such characteristic leads to an uneven distribution of the air curtain. Since 70% of the load is from the air curtain, this paper focuses on characterizing the non-uniform air curtain that is inevitably introduced by the dual-temperature open display cabinet. Two dimensionless parameters that describe the profile of the air curtain are proposed based on 3-dimensional CFD simulation. Using the experimentally validated model and these two parameters, the relation between the discharge air and the flow from back panel is revealed in details to guide the design for the height and positions of the back panel perforations and proper sizing of the fan. These results will promote the development of more efficient new products for supermarket and convenient store applications.
