Résumé

3-D simulations have been performed by means of a commercial CFD code, to evaluate the airflow pattern and the air temperature distribution in a vertical display cabinet for frozen food. 3-D secondary vortices have been found at the side walls, providing the most important mechanism for ambient air entrainment in the case of cabinets of reduced length. Thus, 2-D simulations appear to be totally inadequate for such configurations, while only through 3-D computations the refrigeration power can be predicted with sufficient accuracy. The effects of longitudinal ambient air movements have been also investigated, showing that even low room air velocity, due to its interaction with the end-wall vortices, has a significant impact on cabinet performance.
