Résumé

The energy efficiency of open fronted multi-deck cabinets is highly related to the effectiveness of the cabinet air curtain and the efficiency of air distributed from the cabinet rear back panel. The correct proportion of air coming out of the air curtain and rear panel is important to maintain temperature performance and keep energy consumption low. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) is a useful tool to examine the influence of the rear panel/discharge air ratio on the optimum function of the cabinet. One of the primary problems with CFD modelling is to know the boundary conditions of the model. CFD models often assume that rear panel flow is evenly distributed across the whole panel and that changes in overall flow rate do not change the proportion of flow exiting the back panel. In this paper the actual flow rate through the rear panel at different heights was predicted and compared to measured values. The predicted proportion of flow through the back panel was investigated as the total air mass-flow rate was varied.
