Évaluation des données publiées sur les systèmes frigorifiques pour le transport à moteur diesel afin d’estimer les besoins équivalents en électricité.
Evaluation of published data for diesel driven transport refrigeration systems to estimate equivalent electrical requirement.
Résumé
Transport refrigeration is an integral part of the cold chain and road transport is used for international, national, regional and last mile delivery. The refrigeration systems currently in use are typically powered from the vehicle engine or have their own independent diesel engines to provide power whilst on the road. Last mile delivery should be accomplishable using novel techniques and regulatory requirements permit this in many countries. For international transport the most prominent regulatory requirement is a United Nations treaty commonly known as ATP which has over 50 contracting parties.
All refrigeration systems used for international transport into or out of contracting parties requires ATP approval which involves testing by designated test stations and is based upon refrigerating capacity and the vehicle body insulation. With the transition away from diesel auxiliary engines towards all electric solutions to power the refrigeration machinery the impact of battery charging times versus diesel filling times is a very important factor for operators and logistics companies.
With the above in mind, this paper examines published results of testing of transport refrigeration systems, their diesel consumption and refrigerating performance. From this data an estimation is made of the battery requirement to provide equivalent performance and consider the feasibility for the transport fleet.
It is considered that with the currently available technology that it is possible to power a suitably sized refrigeration system with a practically useful total energy store for comparable operation time with batteries, albeit with a slight overall weight increase to the vehicle as a whole. Further, where suitable infrastructure exists, charging time need not be a significant issue for adoption.
