Évaluation expérimentale d’un nouveau système de pompe à chaleur résidentielle bi-étagée fonctionnant au propane (R290).

Experimental evaluation of a novel residential propane (R290) two-stage heat pump system.

Résumé

With the ongoing aggressive agenda to reduce Global Warming (GW) emissions associated with hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) refrigerants, propane (R290) emerges as a promising alternative for space conditioning and water heating applications due to its negligible GWP, outstanding properties, and affordable cost. However, safety concerns, primarily its high flammability, pose challenges for widespread adoption in residential settings. This study investigates the performance of a residential packaged propane (R290) two-stage variable-speed heat pump system. This work presents a comprehensive experimental analysis of the system’s performance under single-stage and two-stage operations based on AHRI Standard 210/240-2023. The analysis includes both first and second law considerations. The system achieved a 15.5% increase in heating capacity and a 5.8% improvement in the COP under two-stage operation compared to single-stage at an ambient temperature of -8.3°C and indoor temperature of 21.1°C.
