Résumé

In order to enhance the performance of direct-cooling freezers and reduce their energy consumption, a parallel dual-tube microchannel evaporator was proposed to replace the traditional D-shaped heat transfer tubes, as the latter performs poorly in terms of thermal performance and fluid flow performance. A freezer with a new evaporator design was developed and experimentally investigated. Based on test data, the energy consumption and main thermodynamic parameters of the D-shaped tube freezer and the microchannel freezer were compared under the same operating conditions. The results showed that the parallel dual-tube microchannel freezer achieved reductions of 6.5% in daily energy consumption, 8.8% in compressor on-time ratio, 9.6% in refrigerant charge, and 6.7% in pull-down time compared to the D-shaped tube freezer. Furthermore, the refrigerant in this microchannel freezer had a lower thermal resistance and a higher evaporation temperature, along with a significantly lower evaporator pressure drop and a reduced compression pressure ratio. These findings  emonstrated that the parallel dual-tube microchannel evaporator design effectively improved the performance of direct-cooling freezers and feasibility of its application in such systems was confirmed.
