In Japan, the first ice maker was made in 1960, and since 1990, production has been fluctuating at around 60 000 units. Ice is used in various fields, mainly in the food industry. There are several means to make ice. Cube ice is a well-known way of cooling water. When ice is used with beverages, the customers' interest is focused on the ratio of volume in the glass. Ice from flakers is usually soft, and suitable for the fish market. If compressed, it becomes cubelet ice for beverages. Ice crushed from ice slabs is used in the fish industry to cool fish rapidly. Gases for insulation and refrigeration were changed to stop ozone depletion.
