Résumé

The EU Regulation No 517/2014 implemented prohibitions for placing on the market of high GWP R507A and R404A refrigerants. These refrigerants are disappearing from the market, which becomes a serious problem for the refrigerating applications, not directly covered by the prohibitions. For example, these refrigerants were dominant in low-temperature transport refrigerators with eutectic refrigerating systems. For such systems a low-GWP drop-in alternative should be proposed. The eutectic refrigerating system operates at specific conditions with the main limiting factors being low evaporation pressure and high discharge temperature. The applicability of the alternative refrigerants in the eutectic systems is analysed in this article. Test results with the refrigerants R448A, R442A and R452A are provided, with the R452A found to be acceptable as a drop-in replacement. At 38℃ ambient temperature the increase in temperature pull-down time was about 10%, and increase in power consumption was below 4%, when compared to R507A.
