Résumé

According to regulations, CFCs are banned and soon HCFCs will be too. The choice is between HFCs and old well-known refrigerants such as CO2, NH3, water, air or hydrocarbons. The paper investigates the benefits and drawbacks of these fluids, that are toxic or flammable or not very easy to use, and concludes that the most important issue is to reduce the drive energy, which can only be the result of technology development and correct design of systems.
