Good practice guidance for commercial refrigeration.

Résumé

Refrigeration plants are often selected based on one or two criteria, namely the investment costs and the energy costs of the refrigeration plant. It is often better to select a refrigerating plant based on more criteria to avoid costs and problems after installing the plant. For example, additional costs can be made for a lower noise level of the plant or for a lower external safety that is accepted by public authorities. To avoid these additional costs and problems in a early stage, a refrigeration plant must be selected after integral consideration of several criteria. Whereby it is preferred that the operation costs are similar to the original selected refrigeration plant. Good Practice Guidance (GPG) for supermarkets was developed in order to select a refrigeration plant after integral consideration. Seven criteria are used in the GPG for supermarkets. For a limitation of the number of installations and installation options, each criterion is foreseen from a maximum value, based on the original selected refrigeration plant. Only installations and installation options within the maximum value of all criteria are presented in the GPG. The GPG shows that several installation options are available to select a refrigeration plant with similar operating costs that is not only suitable for supermarkets, but also for public authorities. The GPG for supermarkets can also be developed for other branches of industries, and other criteria can be chosen in this context. In this manuscript, the GPG for supermarkets is presented.
