Résumé
The increasing energy demand associated with cold-chain logistics highlights the need for more sustainable refrigeration solutions. This study presents a systematic review of hybrid cooling systems that integrate vapour compression (VC) with active alternative cooling technologies, including absorption, ejector and thermoelectric systems. A validated search strategy was used to identify 38 cold-chain-relevant studies, which were analysed to examine prevailing system configurations, study types and reported performance indicators. The review shows that VC–absorption and VC–thermoelectric hybrids are the most frequently investigated configurations, reflecting strong research interest in thermally assisted and solid-state approaches. Overall, the findings provide a configuration-focused system architecture synthesis of current hybrid cooling solutions and highlight key research gaps that can support the future design and optimization of hybrid systems for sustainable food and vaccine refrigeration.
