This best-practice guideline is an Australian first in that it describes the components of HVAC systems to be evaluated, types of contamination likely to be encountered and important information for post-fire and flood-damage assessments. It details test methods that can be used to verify system cleanliness following a system cleaning or restoration project. It outlines protocols for inspecting the hygiene level of HVAC systems and components and includes assessment criteria for determining when cleaning or restoration is reuqired. It defines what comprises various HVAC systems and components and defines the various types of contaminants that can be found within these systems. It also defines minimum acceptable system hygiene standards depending on the classification of the HVAC system and the building use. The guideline can be applied to all HVAC systems including public and commercial applications.
