Résumé

The following recommendations are made for office buildings: 1) CO2 control of ventilation air should be used for singlezone systems, especially for zones with variable occupancy (e.g. meeting rooms) to ensure good indoor air quality; 2) CO2-controlled ventilation should be used in multizone and variable air volume systems for most climates to save heating energy. In warm climates, however, the heating savings are small and probably do not cost justify a CO2-based system; 3) for systems with central air handling, central control of CO2 should be used because it offers the best compromise between energy savings and IAQ. Additional CO2 sensors for each floor or zone are probably not cost justified; 4) CO2 control of ventilation should include a morning purge cycle where nonoccupant generation of pollutants is of concern.
