Les positions de l'ASHRAE pour relever les futurs défis concernant l'environnement.

ASHRAE positions to meet future environmental challenges.

Auteurs : CHAKROUN W. M.

Résumé

Environmental challenges are becoming stressing issues and need to be tackled. Climate change is directly linked to increasing concentrations of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere and with reports of increased average temperatures. The adoption of the Kyoto Protocol in 1997 and the ongoing international efforts to address this issue are indicators of the heightened level of concern. The destruction of the stratospheric ozone is linked directly to the emission of CFC and HCFC. Worldwide regulations have been implemented to phase out production and consumption of these chemicals to protect the stratospheric ozone layer. Alternative refrigerants and systems are sought to be used instead to protect the ozone such as HFC and natural refrigerants. ASHRAE has a direct interest and concern because most air-conditioning and refrigerating technologies, and some heating technologies, rely on refrigerants and foam-blowing agents. As a result, ASHRAE has a direct involvement in refrigerant and foam-blowing agent issues through technical committee activities, research projects, and standards development, as well as the working practices of its members. ASHRAE recommends that the selection of alternative refrigerants and their operating systems and of foam-blowing agents be based on holistic analysis, including energy efficiency and performance attributes, environmental impacts, community and personal safety, economic considerations, and social impacts. In this presentation, the positions of ASHRAE as approved by its board of director on climate change, ozone depleting substances, and natural refrigerant will be presented.
