Résumé

Measurements of pool boiling heat transfer from a horizontal 8 mm O.D. copper tube with sandblasted surface to carbon dioxide were performed. The saturation temperature was varied in a wide range, and experimental heat flux extended from high values (100 kW/m2) down to natural connection without bubble formation. The new results demonstrate that the high heat transfer coefficients measured for carbon dioxide in comparison to hydrocarbon or halocarbon refrigerants are mainly due to the fact that the application of carbon dioxide is mostly envisaged for conditions where reduced saturation pressure is higher than for common refrigerants. It is shown in the paper that the new results for carbon dioxide are in line with the (normalized) calculation method proposed in the VDI-Heat Atlas for all refrigerants.
