Résumé

After vacuum cooling, vase life at 2 deg C of the carnations given no water supply was 3.2 days. With water absorbed through stems, vase life was 7-8 days, which was similar to the control (non-precooled). For gypsophila under vacuum cooling, flowers quickly withered with no water supply, however this was reduced when water was supplied. It was concluded that water absorption through the stem of cut flowers of carnation and gypsophila could be used to prevent water loss during vacuum cooling.
