Résumé

The magnetocaloric properties of these compounds near the transition between a ferromagnetic (FM) and an antiferromagnetic (AFM) structure are presented. The R for Y substitution influences the transition temperature through a magnetovolumic effect, it decreases with Er content and increases with Tb and Gd. The magnetic entropy variation decreases significantly for R= Er and Tb with x= 0.5. The neutron diffraction studies show that for both compounds the relative AFM line intensities compared to the FM one is significantly lower than in Y(1-x)R(x)Fe(2)D(4.2) with smaller x content. This shows that the magnetic entropy variation strongly depends to the nature of the FM-AFM transition which is related to an itinerant electron metamagnetic behaviour.
