Résumé

As an alternative to physical and chemical absorption, low-temperature CO2 capture by partial condensation and phase separation can be applied in low-emission integrated gasification and combined cycle (IGCC) power plants. By syngas pre-compression to 110 bar and cooling to 217 K, a CO2 capture ratio of about 85% can be obtained by a single flash separation. In order to obtain high-purity CO2 and recover hydrogen absorbed in the liquid phase, a secondary flash separation takes place at lower pressure. An advantage of capturing CO2 in liquid form is the low power consumption caused by final compression from capture to transport pressure. For 85% CO2 capture ratio a specific CO2 capture and compression penalty of 332 kJ/kg (CO2) is estimated, based on the presented process assumptions and simulation model. With respect to energy consumption, results obtained in this work make low-temperature CO2 capture a competitive alternative to baseline technologies.
