Résumé
The Centre for Energy and Processes has been working since 10 years on CO2 capture from flue gases by frosting CO2 on low-temperature heat exchangers. The seven authors of this paper have been working for 3 to 10 years on this new process designed in order to recover the sublimation and the melting energy by the refrigerant blend itself. An integrated cascade, working with a blend of several hydrocarbons whose composition is adapted to the CO2 concentration of flue gases, generates the cooling capacity. The integrated cascade concept makes possible defrosting the low-temperature heat exchangers by the refrigerant blend itself allowing the recovery of a significant part of energy. The paper presents also the energy consumption for CO2 capture efficiency of 90% on a coal-fired power plant of 800 MWe. Furthermore, a description of the flue gas cooling and coldness recovery from 120°C down to -100°C is presented along with the gas cleaning options that can be implemented in those cooling units.
