Système frigorifique utilisant un hydrocarbure pour une brasserie.

Refrigeration with a hydrocarbon for a brewery.

Auteurs : PAUL J.

Résumé

For a newly built brewery in Denmark a refrigeration plant had to be installed. The Danish law restricts since primo 2007 the use of HFC refrigerants heavily. The paper describes the decision making process with the eyes of an end user. It became necessary to investigate, which solution complies with the laws and could fulfil the requirements of the operator at the same time. Energy demand was studied by comparing the feasible natural alternatives to HFC by benchmarking these refrigerants. This study was followed by an investigation concerning safety issues and - last but not least - by a commercial comparison of the different options. The winning refrigerant was R290 propane. For this case the decision was taken to position the refrigeration plant outdoors and to employ air-cooled condensers. The paper describes furthermore the decision making process for water/ethanol brine instead of ethylene glycol. The execution and design characteristics of the R290 refrigeration plant are explained in more detail.
