Résumé

Conservatively designed and built HVAC systems use power and heat from the network of energy supply companies, in most cases in the form of electricity, natural gas or district heat. Using this method, the efficiency of the energy production for HVAC systems of the buildings is approximately 50%. With local or district cogeneration systems, one can reach as high efficiency as 80-90%. If the summer absorption cooling is added (resulting trigeneration), the system may function with this high efficiency throughout the whole year. This means less energy consumption, less costs and less environmental load of the cogeneration plant. The basic considerations and case studies are discussed.
