Résumé

After many years of deliberation, the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Carriage of Goods Wholly or Partly by Sea, to be known as the "Rotterdam Rules" (hereafter "the Convention" or "the Rotterdam Rules") was adopted in December 2008 by the UN General Assembly. So far, 23 States have signed the Convention, but only one, Spain, has ratified it. 20 ratifications are required for the Convention to enter into force. The Rotterdam Rules consist of a total of 96 articles which makes any brief review a challenging task. While a more comprehensive analytical overview of the Convention has been published elsewhere, this short contribution seeks to highlight some key features of the Convention which may be of importance to containerised transport.
