Résumé

Supermarkets are intensive users of energy in most countries. Electricity consumption in large supermarkets in US and France is estimated to 4% of the national electric energy use. The electrical energy used in the Swedish supermarkets account for 3% (1.8 TWh) of the annual national electricity consumption. The refrigeration system in the supermarket accounts for about 40% of the electricity used. Thus, there is a potential to save energy consumption in this field. This study has focus on the indirect supermarket refrigeration system and specifically the energy saving potential of the distribution energy. A novel concept of decentralised pumps in indirect refrigeration systems has been theoretically and experimentally evaluated. A miniature supermarket with refrigeration system was installed in a laboratory with controlled indoor conditions. The system was well instrumented to measure the required system parameters. Three steps were taken in the evaluation. The first step was to test different fixed pump speed conditions, followed by two controlled pump speed conditions; the last step was the decentralised pump concept. Through these 3 steps the energy saving of the refrigeration system was evaluated. When comparing the reference central pump concept and the decentralised pump system, the required pump energy was decreased by 17%. The total energy consumption of the system was decreased by 6%. Thus, the decentralised pump system has a large potential for saving the energy. The central pump was not properly sized and a calculation shows that with a proper size and efficiency the saving figure of the total pump energy would be 34% and the system energy saving 9%. Further improvements of the system are proposed and discussed to make the indirect refrigeration system even more efficient i.e. reducing the parasite losses.
