Résumé

To quantify the global market for the natural refrigerants carbon dioxide (CO2), ammonia (NH3), and hydrocarbons (HCs), an online survey was sent to more than 6000 HVAC&R professionals and relevant industry associations. The total response set used in the following was at 1254 individuals taking the survey. Most respondents were located in the USA, followed by the UK, Italy and Germany. The following paper highlights results for the European sub-set, partly also in comparison with the North American market. Main conclusions are presented in the following categories: 1) overall adoption levels of natural refrigerants for Europe and North America; 2) industry expectations by sub-sector for the period 2012, 2015 and 2020; 3) strengths of natural working fluids and perceived barriers for their wider uptake; and 4) overall policy & business climate for their development in Europe and North America.
