Résumé
A transition-metal-based compound with composition MnFeP(1-x)As(x) has shown a giant magnetocaloric effect and other promising properties for magnetic refrigeration applications at room-temperature. However, due to concerns over arsenic (As) toxicity its substitution for other elements such as silicon (Si), germanium (Ge) was proposed to be strategic. In this work, (Mn,Fe)2(P,Si,Ge) compounds were synthesized by mechanically-aided alloying using a high energy ball mill and further heat treatment at high temperatures. These compounds showed a magnetic phase transition around room-temperature. The variation of the transition-metals ratio on these compounds was studied, and it was found that after 20 hours ball milling and heat treatment they crystallized on the hexagonal Fe2P-structure with a small proportion of secondary phase. Thermo-magnetic results confirmed that the addition of Fe leads to an increase of the Curie temperature, as well as a decrease of thermal hysteresis. However, when Mn and Fe ratio is changed from 1:1, the magnetocaloric effect is reduced. The isothermal magnetic entropy change under field changes of 0-2 and 0-5 T revealed maximum values of 14 and 39 J/kg.K, respectively.
