Calcul prévisionnel des performances d'un système de refroidissement de lait à la ferme.

Prediction of on-farm milk cooling system performance.

Auteurs : CLELAND D. J.

Résumé

On-farm milk cooling is a critical point in the dairy industry cold-chain that has significant capital and operating costs. Most on-farm milk cooling systems in New Zealand use precooling with water and direct expansion refrigeration of the storage silo but alternative systems such as cooling with chilled water from an ice bank are being considered. Previously developed mathematical models of such systems were validated by comparison of predictions with measured data for both an ice-bank system and a conventional silo cooling system on a farm operating with skip-a-day milk collection. Predictions of milk temperature, energy use and hot water heat recovery agreed closely with measured data for both systems.
