Résumé

Due to global warming and to the growth of the world's population, the number of air conditioning units is increasing rapidly. Air conditioning systems amplify the urban heat island effect (UHI) observed in city centres, which reduces their performance. To counter this effect in coastal cities, a heat recovery unit for desalination is coupled to an air conditioner. The employed desalination technique is membrane distillation. It requires a pressure gradient to generate a vapour transfer through a microporous and hydrophobic membrane. Several refrigerants are compared: R134a, R32, R1234yf, R1234ze(E), R1234ze(Z), R290, R600a, R744 (CO2) and R717 (ammonia). The performances are compared in terms of COP and distilled water production in steady-state (EES solver) and dynamic simulations using an EES-TRNSYS co-simulation. Thanks to the large temperature glide at the high pressure, CO2 shows a high production of distilled water. The development of hydrocarbons is hampered by justified restrictions on their flammability.
