Résumé
The metal curtain wall system is widely used in modern high-rise buildings. The thermal performance of the curtain walls is usually lower than opaque walls, because the curtain walls mainly consist of glass and metals with high thermal conductivities. To estimate the annual energy consumption of a building with curtain walling, it is necessary to predict thermal transmittance (U-value) of the curtain wall system. It can be calculated by EN 13947 which focuses on the calculating method of thermal transmittance of curtain walling. The thermal performance of curtain wall systems can also be expressed by area weighted average U-value. The measurements are usually conducted based on EN ISO 12567-1. However, since this method does not focus on curtain wall systems but covers complete windows and doors, the measured curtain wall U-value cannot be directly used to calculate the energy consumption of a building. The purpose of this study is to compare these calculated and measured U-values of three different curtain wall systems. The Physibel and THERM/WINDOW computer simulation program was used to thermally model three different curtain wall design alternatives. U-values of the curtain wall systems were calculated according to EN 13947 and ISO 15099. The calculated results were compared to the measured U-values of the curtain walls.
