Simulation aided design of a compact CO2 exhaust air heat pump.

Résumé
Rising energy costs and the requirements for a reduction of the CO2 emission are leading to a rising demand for renewable energy. Heat pumps are a suitable solution to satisfy this demand. The market asks for a greater variety of different types of heat pumps. To cope with this problem, tools for a faster and more precise design of the heat pump are needed. One possible option is the use of simulation aided design. In the present case, the heat pump has been realized first as a simulation, in order to reduce time and costs during the development cycle and to achieve the most efficient setup of the heat pump cycle. In a second step, the "real" heat pump has been built. The co-simulation of LabView and Modelica using the refrigeration library TIL even offers the opportunity to test complex control algorithms which later could be easily transferred to the "real" heat pump. The compact design of the heat pump unit, a heating capacity of 2 kW and a 200 l tap water storage tank enable the use of the heat pump for space and tap water heating in zero-energy houses or for tap water heating only in common houses. Just a little taller than a common tap water storage tank the heat pump unit offers the opportunity to replace electric direct heated or boiler heated tap water storage tanks. The implemented control algorithms offer a maximum COP through all operation points. Even for tap water temperatures as high as 60°C the controller ensures a high COP which saves money and reduces the CO2 emission. The test results of the heat pump and the simulated heat pump will be checked against comparable heating devices.
