Résumé
A simplified model applicable to Sichuan University prototype, the rotary magnetic refrigerator around room temperature has been developed in details. It is based on the two dimensional energy conservation equations for the fluid flow around gadolinium particles which are alternatively heated and cooled during magnetization and demagnetization process. The temperature distribution inside active magnetic regenerator (AMR) bed can be obtained by numerical simulation verified. In addition, the system's cooling capacity and their influent factors (including physical properties, heat transfer fluids' flux and their inlet temperature) are also predicted by changing volume flow rate and its inlet temperature of the same heat transfer fluid or employing different concentration (from 0 to 50%) alcohol as heat transfer fluid. The numerical results indicate that temperature distribution inside AMR bed has significantly stratification when the flux of heat transfer fluid is less than 250 l/h; however, temperature becomes more uniform as the flux increases, so 250 l/h is probably a most appropriate volume flow rate under 20°C environmental conditions. On the other hand, increasing the inlet temperature of heat transfer fluids increases the refrigeration capacity of the AMR. Furthermore, more cooling capacity can be generated in the same rate (250 L/h) as the alcohol concentration (from 0 to 50%) increasing in the AMR system. Although the maximum difference between Gd particles and water during the magnetization period has great deviation in value, the overall change trend is consistent. It is hoped that the results will provide useful information for optimum design of rotary magnetic refrigerator for room temperature application.
